Fundamental Thermal Emission Parameters of Main - Belt Asteroidsderived from Iso

چکیده
In support for the ISO Mission it has been necessary to establish a set of asteroids as photometric standards for the photometric calibration of the instruments (M uller & Lagerros 1998). The new standards are described as rotating ellipsoids. Illumination geometry, heat transfer due to non-zero thermal inertia and surface structure/porosity are taken into account. The characteristic properties of this new thermophysical model (TPM) can be found in Here we apply the TPM to a set of ISO observations on (1) Ceres to derive its thermophysical properties. We determine the thermal inertia, the beaming function, caused by surface roughness and porosity, and the wavelength dependent emissivity. Since we are able to model the full thermal emission over the wavelengths range from 5 to 200m, we believe that our ndings represent fundamental thermal emission properties not only of (1) Ceres, but also of other Main-Belt asteroids.

ISO results on bright Main Belt asteroids: PHT–S observations
Observations of asteroids have been performed by the ISO satellite with PHT–S. The aim of these observations was to investigate the physical and compositional properties of five bright Main Belt Asteroids (1 Ceres, 2 Pallas, 3 Juno, 4 Vesta, and 52 Europa) in the spectral range 5.8–11.6 μm. The Standard Thermal Model and a black-body fit have been applied to the obtained spectra to derive sub-s...
متن کاملThe impact of main belt asteroids on infrared – submillimetre photometry and source counts ( Research Note )
Context. Among the components of the infrared and submillimetre sky background, the closest layer is the thermal emission of dust particles and minor bodies in the Solar System. This contribution is especially important for current and future infrared and submillimetre space instruments – like those of Spitzer, Akari and Herschel – and must be characterised by a reliable statistical model. Aims...
متن کاملAn extrasolar Kuiper belt at the height of its dynamical activity
Context. Fomalhaut is a young (2 ± 1 × 108 years), nearby (7.7 pc), 2 M star that is suspected to harbor an infant planetary system, interspersed with one or more belts of dusty debris. Aims. We present far-infrared images obtained with the Herschel Space Observatory with an angular resolution between 5.7′′ and 36.7′′ at wavelengths between 70 μm and 500 μm. The images show the main debris belt...
متن کاملReformer Gas Application in Combustion Onset Control of HCCI Engine
Homogenous charge compression ignition (HCCI) combustion is spontaneous multi-site combustion of a nominally premixed air/fuel mixture that exhibits high rate of pressure rise and short combustion duration. To avoid excessive pressure rise rate and knocking, HCCI engines are fueled with highly diluted mixture using a combination of excess air and/or EGR. HCCI combustion is attractive due to ...
متن کاملThermal inertia of near-Earth asteroids and implications for the strength of the YORP effect
A number of recent works[1-9] have shown that the thermal inertia of the surfaces of small, km-sized near-Earth asteroids (NEAs) is in general between two and three orders of magnitude higher than that of large main belt asteroids[10] with sizes in the range between 200 and 1,000 km. This confirms the idea that large main-belt asteroids, over many hundreds of millions of years, have developed s...
